A more seamless airport arrival experience  

Singapore Changi Airport is one of the largest transportation hubs in the Asia-Pacific region. Serving more than 100 airlines terminals on a 9.7-square-mile site, it has four terminals with a fifth in development.  
The newest terminal, Terminal 4, is equipped to handle over 16 million passengers a year with 21 aircraft gates. The award-winning airport is often considered a destination in itself, with each terminal offering unique art installations, lush gardens, and premium leisure facilities. 
To improve connectivity and access to Terminal 4, TYLin, one of Sidara’s leading infrastructure specialists, designed multiple bridges that ensured that passengers would more easily be able to arrive and depart from the terminal. 
Passenger access improvements benefit both passengers and airports. Creating a safer and quicker passenger journey reduces passenger stress and creates a more enjoyable experience, and ultimately increases loyalty. These improvements also have a cascading effect on airport operations – improved passenger flow minimizes congestion, leading to greater efficiency, better resource management, and enhanced security.  

Improved access and mobility

 While Terminals 1 to 3 are interconnected via Skytrain, Terminal 4 is a standalone building that is connected to the rest of the terminals by shuttle bus. 
To improve connectivity, TYLin was responsible for the civil and structural design of five vehicular bridges, one single-span bridge crossing an existing underpass, and one pedestrian bridge. The single-span bridge forms part of a service road network and was designed to cross over an existing underpass.  
The new overhead pedestrian bridge across Airport Boulevard links pedestrians to Terminal 4 from a bus shelter, while three ramp bridges provide vehicular access to the airport terminal for convenient passenger pickup and drop-off. The two-lane landside overcrossing allows vehicles to access Terminal 4 and other airport terminals more easily.   
The airside bridge uses one carriageway for passenger buses and the other for linking service vehicles to a main boulevard and features two sets of two-lane carriageways in one elevated structure. It also houses high-tension cables and information technology services.

These bridges ensure that passengers can travel with ease of mind, even on their way to and from the airport. Facilitating the passengers also helps keep this regional hub operating smoothly and connecting people to their destinations all around Asia and beyond.
