Scotland’s first net zero carbon and digital hospital.

The most advanced hospital in Scotland

The Monklands Replacement Project is NHS Lanarkshire’s exciting and positive vision for University Hospital Monklands and the wider community it serves. It proposes a major investment in Lanarkshire’s hospital estate by rebuilding the hospital on a new site - delivering what will be the most advanced hospital in Scotland.

As main advisors on the project, Sidara’s leading project management organization Currie & Brown, are supporting NHS Lanarkshire to deliver their vision. They are providing expertise in cost management, project management, digital, BIM and sustainability services in the construction of this new state-of-the-art hospital.

The clinical requirements include wards with 100% single occupancy rooms and a range of specialist departments that are essential for a major acute hospital.

Driving net zero carbon ambitions

The project has significant net zero carbon ambitions as NHS Scotland's pathfinder for the new Net Zero Carbon Standard for Public Sector Buildings.

The team from Currie & Brown are helping to drive embodied carbon reduction through strict targets, use of non-fossil fuel primary energy source and reduction in operational carbon.

Their net zero and embodied carbon experts have been deploying innovative thermal modelling programs to reduce the hospital's carbon footprint.

Digital technology innovation

The new hospital will ensure safer and better patient care using digital technology and real-time information to support an efficient and effective patient journey.

As a key member of the project’s digital working group, the team are reviewing how technology will be used so patients can access care advice and navigate their way more easily through the hospital.

As part of their digital offering, they are also determining asset management requirements and integration with national digital platforms.

Achieving value for money

The Currie & Brown teams have collaborated to understand the development of the design and impact on the cost plan. This ensures value for money is created to meet NHS Lanarkshire’s requirements.

They have also supported them on selecting the project’s most suitable procurement route by engaging with the market, preparing findings and recommendations for review with the Scottish Government.
